No matter where you are in your fly tying journey, we have a wealth of resources here at Anglers All to help you take the next step. Interested in tying, but don’t know where to begin? We’re here to help. Whether you’re brand new tyer or a crusty old veteran of the vise, check out these resources to help you shorten the learning curve:
1. Classes
The best way for a new fly tyer to jump-start their skills is to learn first-hand with a dedicated instructor and side-by-side with fellow tyers. Books and videos are great. But nothing beats that live, personalized help to accelerate the learning process.
Our fly tying classes always sell out fast. At the time of this blog post, we have a few have spots open for our November Intro to Fly Tying Class. This class is a two-day class, held on consecutive Saturdays and meant to bring any new tyer up to speed and producing some of their very own flies. Click the link below for more class dates for the rest of the tying season covering December, January and February.

3. Videos
We’re proud to have built a substantial library of high quality, in-depth fly tying videos (not to mention videos on knots, rigging, fishing tactics and a whole lot more). Each of our fly tying videos takes you step-by-step through a favorite fly pattern, with great tips for using the materials and achieving consistency.
The videos feature current and former members of the Anglers All staff, as well as special guests, which include some of the industry’s foremost tyers and fly innovators.
All of these instructional videos are available on the Anglers All YouTube Channel. Please take a moment to subscribe to our channel. Have ideas for new videos? Let us know what you’d like to see!
4. Articles
You can find helpful fly tying tips and information right here on the Anglers All website, in many of our previous blog posts. Here are links to a handful of recent fly tying articles:

5. Books
Finally, there’s something valuable about having a hard-copy book by your side when you’re sitting at your fly tying vise. A good fly tying book is something that you can keep coming back to as you practice the fundamentals and hone your skills.
One of our favorite introductory fly tying books is Charlie Craven’s Basic Fly Tying. This book helps teach some of the most important fundamental techniques in fly tying for nymph, dry fly and streamer patterns.
Another one of our favorite books is Pat Dorsey’s Tying & Fishing Tailwater Flies. This book is particularly applicable for anglers who frequent the excellent tailwater fisheries here on the Front Range and throughout Colorado. For our home waters here on the South Platte, there’s no better book for tying and fishing those tailwater flies.
