If permit are top of your list, The Palometa Club should be too!

The Palometa Club is an exclusive fly fishing lodge on the northeastern edge of the famed permit and bonefish flats of Ascension Bay in Yucatan, Mexico. Founded in December 2005, the Club is one of the most respected fly fishing lodges in the Caribbean for serious flats anglers. It is also a great lodge for beginner anglers looking to book their first saltwater trip. The Palometa Club is the definition of an old school lodge operation with tremendous hospitality, comfortable accommodations, incredible food, and an all-star staff. They also hang their hats on a unique fishing program founded on the most experienced and professional team of English speaking guides in the region. Their guides have a wealth of knowledge and experience that will accommodate the needs of advanced and beginner anglers.

Palometa Club operates out of a comfortable (recently renovated) six-bedroom lodge located on the picturesque ocean-side beach of the unique lobster fishing village of Punta Allen, Mexico. Anglers can book fully-inclusive, week-long fishing packages (which include transportation from Cancun) in their quest for permit, bonefish, tarpon, snook and more. Non-anglers can enjoy snorkeling, guided eco tours and archeological trips as the Palometa Club is situated within the famed Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, a 1.3 million acre World Heritage Site known for its rich marine environment, exotic birds and tropical wildlife, and vast array of Mayan ruins.

In fact, Palometa Club was the first pure “permit lodge” in the world. Their guides’ scientific approach to permit fishing techniques, tackle, and areas fished is very evident in their infectious enthusiasm and obvious desire to get the most out of every second in the fishing day. The guide staff are constantly comparing notes, tweaking fly patterns, and exploring new areas to find fish. Palometa Club has succeeded in creating a culture of revved up guides with a smile on their face and genuine love of chasing permit – all of which translates to more opportunity to close the deal and get one in the boat!

While The Palometa Club is unmistakably focused on the permit fishing program, the guides are more than happy to switch gears to target the multitude of other species available on Ascension Bay. Whether it's plinking around the mangroves for tarpon and snook, or enjoying a long wade for bonefish, they encourage guests to explore other facets that make the fishery so dynamic. Other gamefish such as jack crevalle, sharks, barracuda, triggerfish, and a multitude of other reef species are very much a part of the program. This diversity in species available guarantees a bend in the rod is never too far away on Ascension Bay.

One of the best parts about the Palometa Club is the raising of the flags and the cold margaritas waiting for you upon arrival to the lodge at the end of each day. It is tradition at the club to hang a permit flag for every permit caught that day. It is a sense of pride and excitement when you land a permit and get to hang your flag. Pair that with a cold margarita that is waiting for you every single day you get back and you get an amazing lodge experience. It fosters a welcoming and fun environment that really makes the lodge special.

Getting to Palometa Club is a simple flight into Cancun International Airport (CAN). At the airport you will be met by lodge staff and driver, Manny, to take you from the airport to the Sian Kaan Biosphere. It is a short 1.5 to 2 hour drive from the airport, through Playa Del Carmen and Tulum, to the biosphere. From there you transfer to a boat to shuttle you to the lodge roughly one hour away. This eliminates the need to drive completely to the lodge on an unmaintained road to the lodge for 4 hours.
