Placencia has long been known in the fly fishing community for the productive fishing found within a short boat’s ride from the village. Permit is the main attraction, and the flats they inhabit are certainly the most picturesque in Belize. Tarpon can be found nearly 365 days per year, with the most likely time frame for great tarpon fishing happening between late spring and early fall (May-early September). There are a number of bonefish flats, and they can be caught daily, making this region one of the top areas for catching a grand slam (bonefish, permit, and tarpon all in the same day) or catching a trip slam (all three species on different days). 

One of the biggest benefits of fishing Belize is its relative ease of travel to get to some of the best fishing in the world. It is a short flight from Denver into Belize International Airport (BZE). From Belize City you have a couple of options to get to the small town of Placencia. You can book the Muy’Ono explorer which is a 3 hour tour from Belize City to Placencia that includes a welcome drink in an air conditioned van. Or you can book a domestic flight to the Placencia airstrip which is roughly a 30 minute flight. Upon arrival to Placencia you will be greeted by a Blue Horizon Lodge staff member who will take you to the boat that will shuttle you to the lodge for your final 45 minute stretch to your home for the week.
