Fly Fish Patagonia. Cinco Rios & Estancia Del Zorro Lodges.

Just outside the city of Coyhaique in Chilean Patagonia is one of our favorite fishing destinations, Cinco Rios. Cinco Rios is a beautiful, well-appointed lodge with panoramic views of the Simpson River Valley and the Andes Mountains. The location, variety of water, amenities, and staff make this an ideal angling adventure.

The lodge can accommodate 12 guests based on double occupancy. Rooms are comfortable, spacious, and wonderfully furnished. In the great room, a cozy living area surrounds the huge fireplace, providing the perfect spot for après cocktails and storytelling. The dining room is quaint and classy, with stunning views. The staff at Cinco Rios are eager to serve and make your vacation one you won’t soon forget.

The name of the game at Cinco Rios is diversity. The amount of water at your fingertips is really incredible. In a week of fishing, it’s not unreasonable to see big coastal rivers, glacial lakes, small mountain streams, and spring creeks. If dry flies are your thing, bring your beetles, hoppers, caddis, and mayflies. They are all here. For the streamer junkies, there are big trout on the hunt for big flies. Rainbow and brown trout are the norm, but opportunities for king salmon are available at the right time of the year. The Simpson, Paloma, Azul, and Manihueles rivers are just a few of the possibilities.

Cinco Rios is a great place to enjoy non-fishing activities. These include horseback riding at the Estancia del Zorro, hiking, biking, or a relaxing massage and some R&R at the lodge. Your stay is highly customizable and can easily include a mix of fishing and non-fishing activities.

The waterfalls, mountains, plateaus and wide-open landscapes of the Patagonian countryside are breathtaking. Both casual anglers and die-hards can be happy. You may fish for a few hours, or from dawn until dusk. Fish for a week straight, or take a couple days to see the Chilean wine country, or go horseback riding. Whatever you want from this trip, Cinco Rios can customize it perfectly.

Whether you like to fish on foot, from a drift boat, or a jet-powered pontoon, guides can tailor days of fishing based on angler preference, water conditions and what happens to be fishing well in that moment.

Travel to Cinco Rios is typically through Santiago. Many guests choose to spend a night or two in Santiago to see the sights. From Santiago, guests take a 2.5 hour domestic fight to Balmaceda. The staff will be waiting for you in Balmaceda to bring you to the lodge.

DESTINATION: ESTANCIA DEL ZORRO, CHILE

Fly Fish Patagonia's Famous Spring Creeks

Estancia Del Zorro is a favorite of ours in Chilean Patagonia. This sister lodge to Cinco Rios lodge is a working horse ranch located outside Coyhaique and sits right on the the Argentinian border. This more rustic and remote location affords the angler the opportunity to fish both countries in a single visit. Zorro is home to great examples of Patagonia's famous spring creeks where big dry fly eating rainbow and brown trout feed in water you can almost step across.

The variety of water here, much of it on the Zorro property, includes spring creek lagoons, canyons, and larger rivers is all consuming. An angler can choose to stay at this lodge for the entire week or arrange to a split week with the main lodge. Beyond the water, you are as likely to see any of the 100 Arabian Horses living on the property as you are Andean Condors flying above.

This lodge can accommodate 12 guests based on double occupancy. The rooms here are large, light filled and very nicely appointed. The great room and bar gathers anglers after a day on the water to tell stories and share pictures. All meals and beverages both on the water and back at the lodge are included in your stay. This location also gives anglers and non-anglers the opportunity to visit the Valley of the Moon and see the Andean Condors in a very special and up close cliff side location.
