Fly Tying Video: Better Foam Caddis with Ben Baxter

In this fly tying video, Anglers All resident tying expert and Umpqua Signature Tyer, Ben Baxter, takes us through the process of tying the Better Foam Caddis from start to finish.

A simple, yet very effective caddis pattern, there are a lot of reasons to love the Better Foam Caddis. First, it’s versatile. With foam available in a wide variety of colors, this pattern can be tied to match the caddis on any river, and even small stoneflies like Yellow Sallies.

In addition to this pattern’s versatility, we appreciate the foam caddis for its buoyancy in the water. It stays dry, and it easily supports a dropper. As a dry fly material, it’s hard to beat foam for staying afloat.

And finally, we like this fly because of its simplicity. You don’t need much at your fly tying desk and you can quickly tie up a bunch of these flies to re-load your dry fly box.
